Light Tackle Boat Angling: A Precision-Based Individual Sport
Light Tackle Boat Angling is a powerboat-based sport where individuals, with up to three anglers per boat, compete by fishing for a diverse array of species. Known for its technical demands and strategic approach, this angling discipline tests both skill and patience.
Fishing Technique
Participants primarily use organic lures and are restricted to light tackle fishing lines with a maximum breaking strain of 4 kg, ensuring a challenging and skill-intensive experience. Anglers aim to catch five fish per species, with the heaviest five of each species being weighed to determine their score.
Scoring System
Each species is assigned a difficulty factor based on how challenging it is to catch. The total weight of the catch is multiplied by the species factor, producing a final score that determines the best angler of the day. This system rewards versatility and knowledge of various species.
Catch-and-Release
While catch-and-release is encouraged to promote sustainability, it remains at the discretion of individual anglers. The flexibility allows anglers to balance personal preferences with conservation awareness.
Global Affiliation
Light Tackle Boat Angling is not directly governed by CIPS FIPSed but holds significant importance in Namibia’s freshwater angling landscape. It fosters camaraderie among competitors while highlighting the intricate skills required to excel in this unique sport.
